How Much Does an Interior Design Project Cost in Kazakhstan in 2026: Prices per m² and Examples

The short answer: in Kazakhstan an interior design project is priced per square meter. In our studio a working project (the drawing set for builders) starts at 3,300 ₸/m², a full design project with 3D visualization starts at 10,000 ₸/m², and author supervision of the construction costs 200,000 ₸ per month. Apartments under 40 m² have a fixed price, and properties over 200 m² get a reduced rate. Below we explain what each format includes, how much it comes to for your area and how long it takes.

2026 rates: working project and design project

Working project: under 40 m² — 100,000 ₸ fixed; 40–200 m² — 3,300 ₸/m²; over 200 m² — 2,200 ₸/m². Timeline: 3–7 days for spaces up to 60 m².

Design project: under 40 m² — 300,000 ₸ fixed; 40–200 m² — 10,000 ₸/m²; over 200 m² — 7,200 ₸/m².

Author supervision: 200,000 ₸ per month, usually for 1–6 months depending on the construction stages. We visit the site at least once a week and send photo and video reports.

Working project vs design project

A working project is a 14-sheet documentation set that builders can follow without questions: a measurement plan, demolition and construction plans, a masonry plan, the layout solution, a door opening plan, floor and underfloor heating plans, a ceiling and curtain rail plan, a plumbing plan, a lighting plan with a switching scheme, an electrical plan, a wall finishes schedule, wall elevations for every room and 3D views.

A design project includes all of that documentation and adds three things: photorealistic 3D visualization of every room, custom furniture schemes and online procurement — a shopping list with specific items. A working project is enough if you know exactly what you want and only need proper documentation. A design project is for those who want to see the result before the renovation and get a ready-made shopping list.

What share of the renovation budget the project takes

Take an 80 m² apartment. A renovation with materials in Almaty and Astana in 2026 costs roughly from 150,000 ₸/m² in the economy segment, about 250,000 ₸/m² in the comfort segment and from 450,000 ₸/m² in premium. That is 12, 20 and 36 million ₸ respectively, without furniture and appliances.

A design project at 800,000 ₸ is 2% to 7% of those amounts. For comparison, redoing the wiring once after plastering, or relaying tiles because of a wrong layout, can easily cost the same. Add three months of author supervision (600,000 ₸) and the total project budget comes to 1.4 million ₸.

Timelines: how long a project takes

A full apartment design project usually takes 2–4 weeks: brief and measurement — 1–3 days, layout solution — up to a week, concept and 3D visualizations — 1–2 weeks, then the working drawings. A working project without visualization is faster: 3–7 days for a space up to 60 m². What affects the timeline most is how quickly decisions on the layout and revisions are made.

The studio works in Almaty and Astana, and with other cities of Kazakhstan online: a brief, calls and 3D views you can open on your phone. The on-site measurement is done by a trusted specialist. The project price does not depend on the format.

Where you can and cannot save

You can save by choosing a working project instead of a design project if you are ready to select materials and furniture yourself. You should not save on the drawings themselves: without them builders make decisions by eye, and fixing a single mistake often costs more than the whole project.

Author supervision seems optional until the renovation starts. In practice it is what makes the finished interior match the approved visualizations: replacing a material that has disappeared from sale or correcting wrongly marked sockets is solved on site straight away, not after the finishing.

Frequently asked questions about project prices

Why is the price calculated per square meter? The amount of work grows with the area: more rooms mean more wall elevations, more items in the finishes schedule and more visualization angles. A per-m² rate makes the price predictable: you can calculate the sum before the measurement, and afterwards we only confirm the area. Apartments under 40 m² have a fixed price because even a small space needs the basic documentation set.

Is the renovation itself included? No. We design and supervise the construction, but we do not carry out building work or turnkey renovations. You choose the contractor, and the drawings give them a precise brief — they also make it easier to compare quotes from different builders. You pay for the furniture and materials from the shopping list directly to shops and suppliers.

Can I start with a working project and add visualization later? Yes. A working project is a good fit if the style and materials are already clear. If you later want to see the interior in 3D, we quote visualization without a full design project on request — it depends on the number of rooms and views. If you are unsure about colors and materials from the start, it is better value to take the design project right away.

Does the price depend on the city? No. The rates are the same for Almaty, Astana and online projects in other cities of Kazakhstan: the drawings and visualizations do not change with the location of the apartment. The on-site measurement is done by our specialist.

For how many months should I book supervision? Usually 1–6 months, matching the active construction period. Clients most often book it for the stages where mistakes are most expensive: rough electrics and plumbing, tiling, installation of the kitchen and custom furniture. Supervision costs 200,000 ₸ per month: site visits at least once a week, photo and video reports and notice of any deviations within 24 hours.
